Veterum is a tactical turn-based strategy game set in a dark fantasy world on the brink of collapse. Ancient wildlands have awakened, fanatical prophets speak of an impending apocalypse, and blood cults carry out public sacrifices. As the commander of the last army of the Order of the Gatekeepers, your task is to hold back the chaos and lead your forces through a dangerous open world.

In Veterum, you do not fight alone. Alongside humans, your army can include sturdy dwarves, mysterious elvers, and half-wild turans. However, uniting different races is not always simple, and not everyone will be pleased to fight under the same banner. Managing your army, its composition, and the relationships between its members is part of the challenge.

The game combines exploration, progression, and tactical combat. You travel across a vast open world filled with secrets and threats, take on quests, discover rare artifacts, and equip your soldiers with powerful gear. Units can be developed over time by improving their stats and learning new active and passive abilities, allowing you to shape your army to fit your preferred style.

Battles in Veterum are deep and highly strategic. You must choose the right fighters for each encounter and take into account factors such as line of sight, facing, morale, fatigue, weather, and battlefield lighting. The environment is fully interactive, so you can alter the terrain by building barricades, digging trenches, freezing rivers, cutting down trees, and using fire to gain the upper hand, especially against night creatures. Before combat begins, you can also use special scrolls to influence the battlefield, such as summoning rain, poisoning enemies, or deploying a catapult.

Every playthrough is different thanks to procedurally generated quests, random battles, and varied city inventories. Veterum also offers flexible difficulty settings, letting you adjust combat and reward parameters to suit your preferences. In addition, the game includes a convenient unit and map editor, giving players the ability to create their own missions and share them with others.
