Battle Brothers is a turn-based tactical RPG that puts you in command of a gritty, low-power medieval mercenary company. Set in a procedurally generated open world, you decide where to travel, whom to hire, which contracts to accept and how to train and equip your soldiers. Every decision carries weight, because every veteran you lose in battle is gone for good—unless they return as the undead.

The game alternates between a strategic world map and a detailed combat layer. On the world map you scout for lucrative contracts, raid bandit camps, recruit new fighters in towns or forage for supplies. When you encounter enemies, the action shifts to hex-based turn-based battles. Here historical weapons and armor matter: split shields combine with axes, maces can stun foes, spears form protective spearwalls and warhammers shatter plate mail. Combat is brutal and injuries are permanent, creating stories of triumph and tragedy for each member of your band.

Character progression is flexible and freeform. Veterans gain experience through combat and select powerful perks instead of being locked into rigid classes. Each recruit arrives with a unique background and trait—perhaps a greedy witch hunter, a disowned noble or a ratcatcher with a stutter—bringing variety to your roster. A dynamic event system presents atmospheric encounters and tough moral choices, while three late-game crises (a noble war, a greenskin invasion and an undead scourge) add mounting tension.

Featuring two hours of orchestral music, 70 achievements and a diverse enemy roster, Battle Brothers is a challenging, rewarding journey for fans of hardcore tactics.
