RUBATO is an experimental 2D physics-based collect-a-thon with metroidvania-style exploration. Set in the year 12,012, the game follows a universe where a powerful corporation has ruled for centuries after a catastrophic bioweapon event, the solar system has been torn apart by mysterious cosmic forces, and people are steadily vanishing. Everything changes when one man accidentally ruins a game of pool.

In RUBATO, you use your tongue to grab, lick, and interact with enemies and objects as you explore open areas and gather Planet Bits to help restore the solar system. The world is made up of five tightly designed regions, including a massive bakery and a city that is famously badly planned, each filled with secrets, hidden routes, and shortcuts.

The game also stands out for its unusual story, which mixes humor with more serious emotional moments and memorable character writing. It is playful, strange, and sometimes unexpectedly intense, all while focusing on a journey about self-discovery as much as saving the world.

[spoiler=Steam Update Info 06.06.2026] RUBATO v1.2 delayed to June 29th I need more time because...I decided I want to also edit scenes from The City onwards, so with this update the plot of the entire game will be adjusted. So now, I'm adding:Rewritten Area 2 Completely new Area 3 intro Rewritten script across the entire game. Ranges from subtle rephrasing to complete scene rewrites. I've kept some of people's favourite lines in, but pretty much almost every cutscene has completely new text.Reduced/removed scenes across the ENTIRE game.Reducing 'Area 4.5' in length (the segment at the fourth area).
