Scrabdackle is a charming hand-drawn adventure that feels like a labor of love from a single developer with big ambitions. Drawing inspiration from Zelda-like exploration, Soulslike challenge, and Metroidvania-style progression, it drops you into a sprawling open world full of secrets, odd creatures, memorable characters, and tough-but-fair bosses.

The story begins with Blue, a novice wizard student who gets unexpectedly thrown out of the academy and into a strange world beyond its walls. From there, the journey becomes a mix of discovery, survival, and self-reflection as Blue tries to find their way home while learning how much larger and stranger the world really is.

One of Scrabdackle’s biggest strengths is its freedom. Nearly all spells, bosses, and regions can be discovered in any order, so exploration feels flexible and player-driven. Some areas are open and interconnected, while others function like classic dungeons with linear puzzles and challenges. Along the way, you can talk to locals, uncover hidden paths, study creatures, and fill your academy notebook with notes and observations.

The game also gives players room to choose their preferred challenge. If you want a more relaxed experience focused on exploration and puzzles, that’s available. If you want to push your skills, the bosses and challenge settings are there to test you. Act 1 alone already offers a substantial adventure, with around 12-15 hours for a first playthrough on Poet difficulty, and even more for completionists.
