Radio General is a real-time strategy game where you can't see your units. Instead, you communicate with them over the radio. You receive verbal reports and issue orders back. The fog of war is real, and your units won't always have a clear picture of the battlefield, requiring you to make tough decisions based on incomplete and often confused reports. This all takes place from a detailed command tent, reminiscent of those used during WWII.

Clear your throat and prepare to use your best commanding voice. By combining speech recognition with full voice-acting, you'll feel like a general communicating directly with your troops. Note that speech recognition is only available in English, not supported on Mac, and works best with a North American accent and a good microphone.

Behind the scenes, the game models factors like ammunition, morale, camouflage, sight, and stamina. Elevation and terrain type significantly influence battles. A smaller force can effectively launch ambushes in a forest, while being on a road improves movement speed but offers little cover. Hills increase spotting distance, range, and damage. Study the map carefully to make the best use of your units.

Choose which companies to deploy with care, as each has unique strengths and weaknesses. Learn the quirks and personalities of your companies; for example, zealous officers may refuse to retreat. Veteran companies gain specializations, with each unit type having unique abilities. Ensure your companies rest and replenish between missions, as exhausted units perform poorly.

Experience the war from the perspective of the 1st Canadian Army. Participate in historical events like the Dieppe Raid, the battles of the Hitler and Gothic Lines in Italy, the Normandy landings, and the closing of the Falaise Gap. Review hundreds of historical photos, documents, and videos to gain a deeper understanding of soldiers' experiences during the war.
