Dungeons 4 returns to the gloriously cheeky world of villainy with the Absolute Evil and her loyal-*cough*-servant Thalya back at the helm. The game blends base-building, tactical dungeon defense and Overworld conquest with a tongue-in-cheek fantasy story: construct a comfortable underground lair, tend to your creatures’ needs, and then send them out to turn the green, peaceful Overworld into something deliciously wicked.

What stands out
- Story and tone: The campaign keeps the series’ irreverent narrator and humor, offering a longer, narrated story alongside skirmish maps. The writing leans into classic dungeon-management tropes with playful villainy and memorable characters.
- Dungeon design and scale: Dungeons are much larger than before - reportedly up to four times the previous size - so expect sprawling halls and room for truly massive armies. You’ll build workshops, lairs and defenses while fitting traps and creature comforts to keep minions happy and effective.
- Overworld conquest: Instead of only defending, you actively gather "Evilness" by defeating mini-bosses (yes, even a harmony-obsessed Unicorn) and use it to corrupt new Overworld biomes. Environments change visually as you spread your influence, making conquest feel rewarding and cinematic.
- New factions and rivals: Dwarves now dig in from below and compete with you for resources and territory, adding a fresh layer of rivalry. Meanwhile, the usual Overworld forces-humans, elves and dwarves-send raiding parties to find your Dungeon’s heart.
- Expanded roster and systems: There are more creatures than ever (Horde, Undead, Demons and an expanded role for the Snots). Thalya gains an ability-based perk system that adds customization and new powers, while the Absolute Evil’s customizable Evil Hand provides hands-on management and chaos.
- Modes and multiplayer: Besides the campaign, skirmish maps offer replayable challenges; all maps support 2-player co-op where both players manage a single Dungeon together.

Gameplay impression
Dungeons 4 keeps core dungeon-management mechanics but scales them up. Building and resource-management feel deeper thanks to larger spaces and more competing underground factions. Combat and Overworld incursions combine strategic planning with the fun of sending waves of minions into beautifully corrupted biomes. The new perk and ability systems add meaningful choices to how you run your tyranny, and the addition of dwarven competition forces you to plan expansion more carefully.

Caveats
The larger scale and more systems may feel overwhelming at first if you’re used to more compact dungeon-builders. Expect a learning curve as you juggle creature needs, traps, Overworld invasions and rival factions.

Verdict
If you enjoyed previous Dungeons titles or like base-building with a wicked sense of humor and larger-than-life scale, Dungeons 4 is a satisfying evolution: bigger dungeons, more minions, fresh rivals and a stronger emphasis on active conquest. Dungeons 4 can be downloaded for players who want to embrace (and expand) the dark side.
