Receiver Build 11397226

Receiver is an experimental, unforgiving first-person experience built from a 7-day FPS challenge. It strips the genre down to one core pursuit: realistic gun handling and survival in a hostile, procedurally varied building complex while piecing together an unordered narrative about the looming "Mindkill."

Gameplay and feel
- The game focuses on painstakingly simulated firearms: a Colt 1911, an S&W Model 10 "Victory" revolver, and a Glock 17 with a full-auto mod. Interacting with magazines, slides, safeties and individual rounds is part of the game-aiming to teach how guns actually operate rather than offering arcade shooting.
- Levels are randomized, so each run feels tense and unpredictable. You’re armed only with a handgun and an audio cassette player; the tapes provide fragments of story and preparation for the Mindkill event.
- Enemy threats include automated machine-gun turrets and hovering shock drones/taser robots, each governed by physics-based damage. Ballistics are modeled with ricochets and bullet drop, making shooting and planning feel weighty and realistic.
Design and narrative
- Storytelling is intentionally fragmented and unordered: audio tapes scattered throughout the environment reveal lore and instructions, encouraging exploration and replay.
- The design experiments are evident-this is a game about systems and learning, not hand-holding. Expect a steep, rewarding learning curve as you master the mechanical depth.
Why play it
- If you’re curious about realistic firearm mechanics and atmospheric, minimalist horror/sim experiences, Receiver offers a unique, hard-edged take. Its randomized structure and detailed weapon simulation make each attempt memorable.
- The game also serves as a short, intense study in game design-interesting both to players and creators who want to see how far minimalist mechanics can carry a game.
