Zomborg is set in the year 2000, where the United Nations has established quarantine zones worldwide to contain an unknown virus pandemic. Although the containment is successful, it comes at a significant cost. Rumors spread about survivors trapped inside these zones and the origins of the virus, with footage showing reanimated infected corpses roaming the streets. Despite these rumors, no solid evidence is found.

To discover a cure and the source of the infection, the United Nations deploys military, medical, and scientific teams into the quarantine zones. One medical team uncovers a crucial clue in a blood sample from dead livestock, along with images of infected corpses. However, before they can evacuate, their outpost is overrun by thousands of infected, resulting in the deaths of the entire team and the loss of all samples and research data.

Unwilling to risk another team, the United Nations hires a private military company of highly skilled mercenaries to retrieve the data and uncover the secrets of the zone, from which no one has ever returned.
