As you progress, you'll have the opportunity to rediscover lost bee species, cross-breed new ones, and contribute to the repopulation of the islands. The game features unique crafting and beekeeping minigames that drive gameplay progression. You can cross-breed different bees to discover over 45 new species, discover solitary bees, and craft new habitats for them. Additionally, you can catch and collect butterflies, each with their own special effects, and produce and sell honey, Apicola, and other beekeeping products.

APICO offers multiple biomes to explore, each with its own unique bee species, and encourages players to uncover the forgotten secrets of the APICO islands. The game also supports 4-player online co-op, allowing you to enjoy the experience with friends. For those who have completed the game and are eager for more, modding options are available.

The game emphasizes the importance of bees in both gameplay and the real-world ecosystem. A portion of the proceeds from APICO will be donated to national and international bee, beekeeping, and wild bee conservation charities, promoting bee conservation efforts.
