Compared to its predecessor, Audiosurf 2 offers significant improvements. There are over 500 player-created mods and skins available through the Workshop, providing ever-expanding ways to play. The game introduces additional strategic layers that align with the song's most intense moments. In-game leaderboards allow you to compare scores with friends and rivals, even when they're offline. The graphics have been enhanced, and the game is now available on Mac and Linux. You can also search for music within the game.

In Audiosurf 2, the Mono mode has been revamped to emphasize timing. To maximize your score, you need to fill your grid during the song's most intense moments. Look ahead for corkscrew loops with powerups to anticipate these key moments.

The demo version of Audiosurf 2 lets you play any song of your choice for the first three tracks. After that, you can play the Song of the Day as many times as you like.

For those who enjoy a challenge focused on dodging, there's a new Ninja mode. This mode rewards you for avoiding spikes and features intense spike fields to navigate. It's faster than the regular Mono mode, and the challenge of dodging spikes is more demanding. For an even greater challenge, there's Ninja Turbo mode, which is extremely fast-paced.

Puzzle modes in Audiosurf 2 also require precise timing. You need to push, shuffle, erase, or scoop blocks at the right moments to make the most of multiplier powerups during the song's peak moments.

Players can create and share their own mods and skins on the Steam Workshop. The game provides detailed documentation for creating skins, and every mode and skin includes the script source code and assets, allowing players to use official modes and skins as a starting point.
