Star Witch begins with a tutorial on Earth, where you play as a scientist working on a teleportation machine. When something goes wrong, you are transported to a distant planet where magic and fantasy are real. The opening section helps you get used to the controls and learn the basics of the game.

In Normal mode, you can freely explore an alien world and complete quests in any order. To reach the final battle with the witch in the castle, you must first find three hidden Orbs on an island. Survival is an important part of the game: you need to watch not only your health, but also your calories. Running uphill, jumping, and other actions use up energy, so you have to hunt, gather food, and eat to keep yourself alive.

Combat gives you several options. You can fight enemies with melee weapons such as swords, knives, and spears, or attack from a distance with guns. Along the way, you can also find magical items that help strengthen your character. Your goal is to become the hero who can save the land from the evil witch that came from the stars.

The game also includes two more difficult modes. In Plus mode, enemies cannot hurt each other, making battles tougher. Hardcore mode is even more punishing, since any damage will instantly kill the player and end the game.
