Elsewhere is an ambitious, old-school modpack-inspired sandbox that mixes open-world exploration with deep tech and magic progression. Built by a small team led by solo developer Sergio (working on the project since 2012), the game aims to recreate the sprawling creativity and complexity of classic Minecraft modpacks while adding its own twists: character creation, building templates, monster-filled castles, and a huge procedurally generated world to uncover.

Gameplay centers on exploration, gathering and processing resources, and advancing from primitive tools to high-end technology like electricity, fusion power, and particle accelerators - alongside magic, alchemy, ruins, and temple runs. You can build automated factories (yes, elaborate supply chains like a "Chocolate Cookie Factory"), design castles and bases with pre-built templates, farm and cook, brew potions, and tackle enormous dungeons full of traps, bosses and loot. The quest system guides you but is non-linear, letting you focus on whatever side of the game you enjoy most.

Scale and systems are the game’s biggest selling points. Elsewhere boasts a procedurally generated world with dozens of biomes and sub-biomes, caverns and oil deposits, rich plant and animal life, and naturally generated structures. The numbers are impressive: over 7,500 blocks, more than 6,000 recipes, and roughly 300 quests. There are machines, storage systems, resource processing chains, mini-games (including arcade machines), pre-made skins and a surprising amount of decorative content.

The game nails the modpack feel with a playful tone-there are jokes, references, and even a free YogLabs-inspired mod included with permission-which contributes to a nostalgic, creative atmosphere. A custom engine, world-editing tools, a mini-map, and LAN multiplayer are already implemented, making it usable for both solo and local cooperative play.

That said, Elsewhere is still very much a work in progress. Core mechanics are in place, but the experience needs polish and balancing. Steam multiplayer support, multiplayer optimization, NPC development, additional endgame content, expanded modding tools, and full Linux support are all listed as works in progress. Expect a learning curve and the occasional rough edge-the game is large and takes time to explore and fully understand.

Who should play it: fans of Minecraft modpacks, factory/automation builders, and players who enjoy deep, systems-heavy sandboxes will find a lot to love. If you want a highly polished, plug-and-play multiplayer experience or complete endgame content right away, you might want to wait for further updates.

Bottom line: Elsewhere is a hugely promising sandbox with incredible scope and creativity. Its sprawling systems and nostalgic modpack spirit will delight builders and tinkerers, but treat it as an ambitious early-to-mid-stage project rather than a finished, fully polished game.
