The Ship, rechristened Starfarer, is old and its original government has been disbanded following a violent mutiny. Players must navigate a treacherous path among fellow passengers and various factions vying for control. Your choices will shape alliances and enmities, influencing the course of your journey.

The adventure begins in the Pit, a sprawling area of vacant cargo containers filled with those who couldn't afford to stay in the Habitat. Life here is free but perilous. As you explore, you'll encounter areas like Hydroponics, overrun by mutant vegetation, and the Habitat, once an amusement park, now a fortified platform.

Combat in Colony Ship is challenging, requiring players to manage factors like accuracy, evasion, and damage. Alternatively, players can avoid combat entirely by using speech skills such as Persuasion, Streetwise, and Impersonate. The game features ten party members and over a hundred characters, each with unique interactions.

The Ship is a microcosm of societies, with factions like the Protectors, the Brotherhood, and the Church of the Elect, each with their own beliefs and goals. Lesser factions and groups also populate the Ship, adding depth and complexity to the social landscape.
