Two of the four endings are finished. One route is playable up through the end of Chapter 2, while Chapter 3 and beyond are still in development.

Overview
The Use of Life is a branching, adventure-book style RPG with multiple endings. Your decisions shape Goshe, the protagonist, and the emotional ties he carries, symbolized by flames. You choose whether he pursues his own interests or sacrifices himself for others - endings reflect different life paths rather than being judged as simply "good" or "bad."

Combat
The game mixes turn-based planning with fast-paced, timing-based action. On each turn both you and your opponent pick three actions, which are then carried out in alternating order. Successful outcomes depend on both strategic choices and well-timed inputs. Battles are designed to be learnable through repeated attempts, and boss encounters deliver tense, high-stakes moments that reward skill and perseverance.

Adventure-book events
Story events are presented in an adventure-book format, and some include tabletop-style dice rolls that can change the outcome. The same encounter can play out in different ways depending on your choices and the roll results, letting you play cautiously or throw yourself into danger - with those decisions affecting Goshe’s personality over time.

Character growth and customization
Goshe gains power through a mysterious Curse and grows stronger by facing death and earning experience. Your stat and skill choices influence both combat performance and the outcomes of non-combat events. As you level classes you unlock new skills and spells, allowing a variety of builds and strategies.

Classes
Available class archetypes offer distinct playstyles:
- Fighter: relies on raw physical strength and many actions.
- Samurai: delivers lethal, precise strikes and high critical potential.
- Mage: trades risk for massive magical damage.
- Sorcerer: uses special attacks and status effects to manipulate foes.
By investing in different classes you can adapt to many combat approaches.

Design goal
Although it’s a JRPG at heart, the title aims to be a "good new" JRPG - evolving the genre rather than simply imitating classic formulas.

Early Access
The Early Access build lets you play further than the trial, includes experimental systems the developer wants to test, and is intended to gather player feedback to improve the final game. Early purchasers will get the full release when it’s finished and can access the full game for a lower price during Early Access.
