You live through daily life in antiquity, take part in traditional festivals and Ludi, raise and educate children, arrange marriages, manage property and finances, and try to advance your house up the social ladder.

Gameplay is open-ended: there’s no fixed finish line, though ambitious families can pursue high office by climbing the Cursus Honorum and even aiming for the consulship-becoming a Novus Homo is a possible legacy. Characters age and die, and play typically continues through heirs (usually the eldest son). Fate can be harsh-fortunes and status may be lost suddenly-but the systems encourage gradual accumulation of wealth and influence, and the game never ends in a final "game over." The emphasis is on experiencing Roman life at every rank, from commoner to senator, each level bringing different goals and challenges.
