Zorbus is a fantasy-themed, tile-based, turn-based roguelike that challenges you to explore a randomly generated dungeon in search of a portal to the mythical realm of Zorbus, where mere mortals can attain demigodhood. Along the way, you can recruit creatures to fight by your side, but beware: permadeath is permanent. You may save your progress, but loading a save deletes the file, and there is no need to identify items or manage hunger—every choice and encounter counts.

Drawing inspiration from late ’70s and early ’80s tabletop Dungeons & Dragons, Zorbus strives to make its dungeon feel alive and eventful. Levels come in diverse shapes and themes—throne rooms, prisons, secret treasure caches—connected by thoughtfully designed corridors. Monsters and NPCs act intelligently: they fight one another, flee when outmatched, call for reinforcements, pick up and use items, and even banter via speech bubbles. Dynamic lighting and line-of-sight shape every tactical decision. Torches, lanterns, and creature-carried light sources may be lit or darkened, and some beings possess darkvision. Both light and noise influence how creatures detect and react to you.

Under the hood, Zorbus employs a rule set loosely based on the d20 system of Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition. There are no rigid character classes—instead, you choose a race and advance by levels, spending points to acquire skills and talents. Controls are fully configurable. While mouse support and gamepad compatibility exist, the heart of the experience lies in the keyboard-driven interface, complete with an easy-to-use targeting system for ranged attacks and talents. Quickslots let you assign consumables and abilities for instant access. You can adjust the display between windowed or fullscreen modes, switch among 32×32, 48×48, and 64×64 pixel tiles or classic ASCII characters, and customize fonts and text size to suit your taste.
