Urban Strife is a unique mix of classic turn-based strategy, survival, and deep RPG storytelling set in a post-apocalyptic American South. You start as a mysterious patient rescued by a CDC team from their Atlanta lab, only to be revived by compassionate locals in a rundown shelter. With your survival instincts kicking in, you must rebuild your community, gather scarce resources, and inspire hope among desperate survivors.

The game features a realistic approach to combat. Every weapon—from handguns and shotguns to assault and sniper rifles—has its own advantages and quirks. For example, handguns and shotguns excel at close quarters while rifles offer targeted shots with the possibility of crippling or eliminating enemies by hitting specific body parts. The underlying ballistics and damage mechanics add an extra layer of strategy, requiring you to carefully choose your gear based on the threat at hand.

Engaging in combat isn’t limited to firearms. Almost any object can be wielded as a melee weapon—from a rolling pin to a customized baseball bat—giving you plenty of creative options when facing both human foes and the ever-present horde of zombies. The turn-based combat system uses an action points style similar to classic titles like Jagged Alliance 2, yet it has been refined to prevent the usual tedium, especially against large groups of slow-moving zombies. In fact, zombies get their own simultaneous movement phase, making every encounter dynamic and thrilling.

Beyond the battlefield, Urban Strife is rich with RPG elements. The world is populated by NPCs striving to survive who carry their own stories and agendas. Your decisions—whether siding with a faction, negotiating alliances, or fighting them—will not only shape your personal journey but also determine the fate of the remnants of society. Three major factions, including army rebels, a zealous zombie cult, and a feared biker gang, are vying for control, and the alliances you forge will come with difficult moral dilemmas.

In addition to combat and narrative, the game emphasizes survival mechanics. Begin by clearing out bandits and zombies from a dilapidated shelter, then work to repair and upgrade it. Scavenge the environment for valuable resources and manage your shelter’s inhabitants by hiring specialists and coordinating labor. As you make strategic improvements, you’ll unlock new upgrades and capabilities that can turn your small refuge into a thriving stronghold.

Powered by the modern Unreal Engine, Urban Strife offers realistic day-night cycles, advanced sound and smoke propagation, dynamic environmental interactions, and even authentic bullet trajectories. With continuous updates planned during Early Access, expect more features and content to further expand this gritty, immersive experience where every decision counts in the fight for survival.
