The gameplay involves navigating a vast network of mundane horrors, where you must run, swim, jump, slide, and climb to find your way to freedom. With no one around to guide you, you must forge your own path to the exit. The game encourages players to utilize their surroundings by pushing obstacles, smashing windows, and doing whatever it takes to progress to the next room.

Anemoiapolis also tests your puzzle-solving skills, requiring you to short circuit electrical panels to access new areas. The dynamic environments mean that things aren't always as they appear, and you can't rely on a door being in the same place the next time you pass by. The game is designed to make you feel lost and confused, with procedural labyrinths that give the sensation of going in circles, which is exactly where you need to be.

Developed by Andrew Quist, Anemoiapolis is inspired by his Michigan hometown and the concepts of "liminal spaces" and "the backrooms" that gained popularity in late 2020. The game features a soundtrack by JORDANN and 4REST, adding to the immersive and unsettling atmosphere.
