Junkyard Truck is an open-world game that combines off-road driving, mechanic simulation, and job simulation. You begin by purchasing an old truck from the junkyard, which requires you to replace worn-out or missing parts and reassemble it, hoping your efforts pay off. Once your truck is operational, you can undertake off-road missions and jobs to earn money. As missions become more challenging, you can visit the auto parts store to buy better engine parts, wheels, drivetrain components, or accessories. If funds are tight, scavenging the junkyard might be necessary. While jobs and missions are lucrative, maintaining your truck is essential. When your truck is powerful enough and you have sufficient funds for major repairs, you can tackle various challenges on the map, such as races, rock crawls, hill climbs, and destructive long jumps.

If you're not mechanically inclined, don't worry. Your truck comes with a fully illustrated service manual, and the town has a mechanic who can provide inspections or repairs if you have the cash.

The game features a fully integrated stock engine and drivetrain with over 60 stock parts, a swappable V8 engine with additional parts, and numerous aftermarket options. It also includes a motocross bike with a buildable engine, ideal for reconnaissance. You can upgrade parts like EFI conversion, headers, drive gears, turbochargers, and several off-road tire options. The engine and drivetrain are fully responsive, offering realistic performance and auditory feedback on part failures, temperature, or fluid issues. The game offers miles of off-road trails and roadways, allowing you the freedom to play as you wish. It includes off-road challenges, some of which are difficult and others nearly impossible.

You can earn money through heavy delivery missions, rescue missions, collecting and recycling junk, or by working independently through activities like brewing moonshine, logging, mining, or gambling at the pub with Texas Hold'em. The game features a day and night cycle, requiring you to manage your food, hydration, and sleep. It also includes softbody physics and races against challenging opponents.
