Humanica v0.8.19a

Humanica is a promising colony-simulation and survival game set in the distant past, beginning in 10,000 B.C. From the first days of the Paleolithic era to the Iron Age, the game follows the slow but rewarding development of human civilization, pushing you to adapt as your settlement grows and technology advances.
At its core, Humanica blends city-building, survival, crafting, and exploration. Early on, the focus is on staying alive: gathering resources, building shelter, making tools, farming, raising animals, and ensuring settlers are fed and clothed. As your community expands, production becomes more complex, with bronze and iron smelting, better tools, and more advanced infrastructure.
One of the most interesting aspects of the game is its turn-based structure. Each day functions like a turn, giving settlers only a limited amount of time to work, which adds a strategic layer to planning and efficiency. This is complemented by a hex-based world map where you can explore for valuable resources, seeds, and animals to breed.
Humanica also stands out with its unusual construction and terrain systems. Buildings use an irregular grid, while the landscape itself is editable, letting you dig out mountains or even build them up again. On top of that, the settlement must be defended from wild animals and nomads, so military preparation and fortifications become essential.
Key features:
- Progression through ancient eras, from Paleolithic to Iron Age
- Large technology tree that changes your playstyle over time
- Survival-focused early game with building, crafting, farming, and animal husbandry
- Turn-based day structure that emphasizes efficiency and planning
- Hexagonal world map for exploration and resource gathering
- Editable terrain and unusual construction grid
- Settlement defense with armed settlers, walls, and towers
- Procedurally generated world with selectable landscapes
- Laws and annual plans that add customization and light roguelike elements
- Tool quality affects work speed and productivity
Humanica looks like a thoughtful blend of strategy, management, and historical progression, especially appealing to players who enjoy long-term development and careful resource planning. The fact that it is being created by a solo developer adds a personal touch to the project.
