Factorio Space Age v2.0.66a

Factorio: Space Age is a bold and satisfying expansion that picks up where the base game leaves off - after you’ve mastered rockets and reached orbit. It shifts the focus from single-planet megafactories to true interplanetary logistics, bringing a suite of new mechanics, biomes, and engineering challenges that refresh everything players love about Factorio while adding meaningful strategic depth.

The headline feature is the space platform system: flying, modular factories that serve as your bridges between worlds. Space platforms act as mobile production hubs and cargo shuttles, requiring you to design defenses against incoming asteroids, harvest those asteroids into useful materials like thruster fuel and ammunition, and manage hub-and-bay traffic to keep resources flowing between planets. It’s an elegant extension of Factorio’s logistics puzzle - now vertical and orbital.
The expansion introduces distinct new planets, each with its own hazards, resources and gameplay hooks:
- Vulcanus is a volcanic forge-world where you extract tough tungsten and pull lava to produce molten metals - ideal for massive foundries and heavy industry.
- Fulgora is a cold, barren world scarred by nightly lightning storms; you’ll harvest tech ruins and Holmium for advanced electromagnetic and superconducting tech while surviving harsh electrical weather.
- Gleba is a colorful, swampy biome focused on agriculture and biochemical processing - exotic plants and spoilage mechanics push you into new production chains and bioengineering.
- Aquilo is an icy, cryogenic realm that forces you to manage heat with pipes and extend your factory over ice, unlocking cryogenic tech and fusion power.
Beyond planets, Space Age adds several important systems that change how you plan mid- and late-game production. Elevated rails let you build multi-level train networks, cross oceans, and create more compact, efficient intersections - a major boon for complex logistics. The new Quality system gives items, machines and equipment five quality tiers (Normal to Legendary), with researchable modules that let you craft higher-quality intermediates; better quality translates directly into faster machines, stronger equipment, and more effective defenses. These two changes alone provide lots of fresh optimization puzzles.
Combat and survival have also been expanded. Some planets are home to new, dangerous creatures that force you to build specialized defenses and rethink turret placement on both planetary surfaces and space platforms. Combined with asteroid threats, this expansion increases the strategic weight of protecting your infrastructure across different environments.
Presentation is excellent: each new planet is accompanied by unique orchestral scores by Petr Wajsar, adding atmosphere and personality to exploration and base-building sessions. The professional recordings and planet-themed themes help each world feel distinct and immersive.
If you enjoy Factorio’s core loop of automation, optimization and emergent complexity, Space Age is a meaningful extension that introduces new systems without losing the game’s trademark focus on player creativity. It increases replayability through new resource types, environment-specific challenges, quality-driven progression, and expanded logistics options. There is a learning curve as you balance space platforms, planetary hazards, and advanced production chains, but the payoff is rich - more strategic depth and new "aha" moments.
Factorio: Space Age is available for download and is a highly recommended expansion for players who want to take their factories beyond a single planet and tackle interplanetary engineering.
