Pushover puts you in control of G.I. Ant as he tries to gain entry to Captain Rat’s Treasure Caves. The game features 100 increasingly tricky puzzles spread across nine themed worlds. Each stage is made up of several connected platforms populated with various "dominoes" that must be arranged so a single push sets off a chain reaction that clears the way to the exit.

There are 11 kinds of dominoes, marked by red and yellow patterns, and each type behaves differently. G.I. Ant can pick up and carry certain pieces one at a time to reposition them before attempting the big push. The challenge is not only to make all the dominoes fall, but also to ensure the path to the exit remains usable after the collapse.

Many things can cause a level to fail: falling debris or destroyed ledges can block the route, gaps may remain unbridged, a line of toppled tiles can sit across the doorway, or dominoes can be accidentally destroyed by landing on one another. G.I. Ant himself can die from long falls, falling off the bottom of the screen, or being crushed by a falling domino-resulting in the familiar "You Failed, You Died" restart.

Each level has a countdown timer, but running out of time doesn’t force an immediate restart; you can continue working on the puzzle. If you pause after the clock has expired, the game will offer a small hint to help finish the stage. As a quirky aside, the hint for level 98 admits the designer couldn’t remember a straightforward push solution and suggests using a drop instead.
