Thrive v0.8.2.1 - early access

Thrive is an open-source evolution simulation game in which you guide a living organism from its simplest beginnings through ever-more complex stages. You begin as the Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) on an alien world, swimming through watery environments in search of nutrients. As you feed, reproduce, and survive, you gain evolutionary points that allow you to add new organelles, alter your cell membrane, or adjust your appearance in the species editor.

Key features of Thrive include:
- A microbe stage where you pilot a single cell or cluster of cells, hunting prey, photosynthesizing, or scavenging resources.
- A species editor that tracks your population’s success and lets you adapt for new biomes.
- Procedurally generated maps and varied habitats, each with its own challenges and resources.
- Competition from other evolving species driven by a population-dynamics simulation with random mutations.
- Multiple strategies and playstyles-specialize in different energy sources, weaponize your cell with real-world organelle analogs, or focus on stealth and speed.
- Detailed graphs and data displays to help you plan your species’ next moves.
- A light interactive tutorial to introduce you to core mechanics, plus a freebuild mode where editing limits are removed.
As you progress, you can evolve a nucleus to become a eukaryote, then bind cells together to kickstart multicellular life. Thrive aims to balance scientific accuracy with engaging gameplay, and it’s built in the Godot engine using C#. Whether you’re a developer interested in contributing code or an enthusiast eager to join the community, everyone is welcome.
You can download Thrive now and embark on your own evolutionary journey.
