Players will navigate the ancient ruins of the Mainframe, unlocking various traversal abilities to aid in their quest for true sapience. The game features multiple endings, influenced by player choices such as repairing systems, restoring data, hacking, or destroying enemies. As you uncover the truth about the Hypervisor and the Mainframe's original purpose, you'll encounter a diverse array of hostile inhabitants.

Recompile provides a range of powerful weapons and abilities to help players defend themselves and overcome threats. The game’s environment is powered by complex logic gate circuitry, allowing players to manipulate systems like locked doors, forcefields, and enemy spawners. This systemic approach means that nothing is hardcoded, and players can exploit these systems to solve puzzles or bypass obstacles. Even the inhabitants' programming can be altered to follow the player's commands.

The story delves into themes of machine sentience, choice, life and death, chaos and determinism, and the nature of intelligence. In this decaying world, players must explore all possibilities and perspectives to truly survive.
