As a Galactic Cadet, your mission is to explore these hostile alien landscapes, scavenge precious resources, and gather your friends to gear up for the monumental fight to save the galaxy.

Every planet you encounter in the game is freshly generated, presenting uniquely challenging environments filled with strange creatures, dangerous monsters, and valuable ores and vegetation. Your survival skills will be put to the test as you adapt to each ever-changing world. When it comes to gathering resources, Roguelands offers a distinctive approach: you won’t be hacking away with traditional tools. Instead, you’ll command specialized Droids to harvest materials, fight off foes, and perform various tasks—each with their own set of passive abilities. Collect resources to craft Emblems, and eventually combine these Emblems at the Gear Forge to discover new equipment and expand your collection of recipes.

One of the game’s most intriguing aspects is its permadeath system. When your Galactic Cadet dies, you lose all the weapons, armor, and loot on their person. However, everything you have stored on your ship remains intact and benefits all your future cadets. Over time, the cumulative progress allows you to permanently unlock new races, variants, augments, and starting uniforms, tailoring your playstyle uniquely with each new character. Additionally, any improvements to your ship or rescued NPCs are carried over, ensuring that your hard-earned resources persist across playthroughs.

Combat in Roguelands is dynamic and expansive, offering an array of weapon types and variants to experiment with. As you delve deeper into the galaxy, defeat fierce creatures, and craft your gear, you’ll unlock new weapon variants with distinct stats and even random augments. This depth in the combat system enables you to meticulously forge the ideal arsenal that suits your fighting style.

Before venturing out onto a planet, equip your Galactic Cadet with up to five Combat Chips. These chips provide both passive bonuses and active abilities like teleportation or unleashing Darkfire, allowing you to customize your approach to combat. As you explore hostile planets as well as neutral cities and towns, you will collect these powerful augmentations, opening the door to a variety of playstyles and character builds.
